Odoo app guide
Odoo Accounting: Transactions, Reconciliation & Financial Control
Odoo Accounting connects financial documents, journal entries, payments and reconciliation with the operational apps that create them. A dependable setup requires an approved account structure, document controls and an agreed opening position. Ever Digital works with your finance team on configuration and testing. Iraq-specific tax, statutory reporting and regulatory requirements must be verified against the business’s exact obligations.

Finance should define the accounting result before data is loaded.
Identify the legal entities, company currency, reporting needs, account structure and responsibility for posting and review. Agree how customer invoices, supplier bills, payments, inventory valuation and other relevant transactions should reach the accounts. This design needs the business’s finance owner; it cannot be inferred reliably from a spreadsheet of balances.
Document the treatment of exceptions such as deposits, credit notes, exchange differences, damaged stock or intercompany activity where applicable. A sample transaction should show both the operational event and its expected financial consequence.

Multi-currency operation requires a rate policy.
An Iraq business may need IQD and other currencies. Currency capability and local statutory suitability are separate questions.
| Decision | Owner’s responsibility | Acceptance evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Company currency | Approve the accounting base for each legal entity. | Opening balances and reporting agree with the approved design. |
| Document currencies | Identify the currencies used with customers and suppliers. | An invoice and its payment show the intended amounts and currency. |
| Exchange rates | Define the source, timing, review and correction responsibility. | A transaction with a rate change produces an understood result. |
| Reconciliation | Decide how bank, cash and partner balances are checked. | Finance can explain residual amounts and exchange differences. |
Document workflow is a control decision.
Decide who prepares, reviews, posts and corrects financial records. Capture the references and supporting documents needed to investigate a transaction. Importing a bill image or generating an invoice does not eliminate the need to check its commercial basis, tax treatment and accounting period.
Sales, purchasing and stock teams should understand which operational confirmations finance relies upon. Where the business needs an enforced mismatch block or approval, demonstrate that exact scenario. Do not equate visibility of a discrepancy with prevention of an unauthorized posting.
Reconcile subledgers as well as the total balance.
Customer receivables and supplier payables should agree with their underlying open documents. Stock quantity and valuation require separate reconciliation. Bank and cash balances need an agreed cutover date and treatment of outstanding transactions. The migration plan should explain how each balance can be traced after go-live.
Run a trial conversion and ask finance to sign off the result before the final load. Preserve a usable archive of historic records that are not migrated. A clear boundary between old and new periods helps prevent duplicate invoices, payments and stock movements.
Requirements that need explicit local or specialist validation.
Ever Digital will scope these against actual documents and reporting obligations rather than promise universal compliance.
- Iraq tax calculations, statutory forms, invoice wording, numbering and reporting submissions.
- Bank feeds, payment providers, cheque handling or external treasury systems.
- Specialized cost allocation, consolidation, industry revenue rules or audit requirements.
- Payroll and employment-related calculations, which are distinct from general accounting setup.
Use a closed financial example to test the design.
Choose a purchase and receipt, a customer sale, the relevant invoices and their payments. Include a foreign-currency difference or a credit note if it represents ordinary business. Finance should reconcile partner balances, bank or cash, stock valuation where applicable and the resulting reports.
After launch, assign owners for period-end checks and unresolved items. The implementation is more useful when the team knows how to investigate an exception rather than only how to post a standard invoice. Bring your chart of accounts, sample reports and a reconciled opening trial balance to the assessment.
Questions businesses ask
Does Odoo support more than one currency?
Yes. Company currency, active transaction currencies, rate ownership and reconciliation must be configured and tested. Multi-currency capability does not by itself verify local statutory compliance.
Is an Iraq statutory setup guaranteed?
No blanket guarantee is made. Finance and appropriate advisers should review the exact tax, reporting and document requirements and validate the proposed configuration.
Is Invoicing identical to Accounting?
Odoo distinguishes its invoice-focused application from the broader Accounting application. Required reporting, reconciliation and finance functionality should guide the app and edition assessment.
Can we migrate only opening balances?
That may be appropriate, but the plan must retain sufficient open-document detail for collection, payment and reconciliation. Agree the archive and cutover boundary before deciding how much history to import.
