Odoo documents several production and supply workflows. The correct choice depends on what your business makes and how it records the work.

A bill of materials is operating data that needs an owner.
The BOM defines the components and quantities required for a product, with operations and other settings where applicable. Incorrect units or obsolete components can cause procurement shortages and misleading production costs even when users follow the system correctly. Agree who creates, reviews and changes a BOM.
Test the difference between planned and actual consumption. Decide what happens when a component is replaced, extra material is used or output differs from the expected quantity. Engineering changes, controlled revisions and specialist approval rules may need additional applications or configuration; they should not be assumed to follow from the existence of a BOM form.

Connect material availability to production decisions.
Purchase and Inventory can supply components through the agreed replenishment and procurement routes. The production team needs to know which materials are available, reserved or expected. Supplier lead times, purchase units and receipt processes should be maintained consistently with the BOM data.
Test a manufacturing order with one missing component and a supplier partial receipt. Decide who can reschedule production, approve an alternative or release work with an unresolved shortage. A forecast screen provides information; the business still needs a planning policy and an accountable person to make the decision.

Availability depends on the Odoo edition, hosting and subscription. Configuration, data migration and training are implementation work. Specialist connectors and extensions require a separate scope.
Use work centers and Shop Floor where they improve the production record.
Odoo documents work centers, work orders and Shop Floor views. They can help organize operations and record progress when the process has meaningful stages. Agree what operators need to see and what they must record, rather than adding a work center for every theoretical activity.
Capacity, time and cost inputs should be validated with the people who understand the process. A scheduling view is not a promise of every advanced optimization rule. Machine data collection, PLC or MES interfaces, specialist sequencing and real-time process control need a separately verified solution and integration scope.
Choose traceability that can be maintained on the shop floor.
Lots or serials can connect components and finished goods to their stock and production records where configured. Decide which products require batch or individual identity and where those identifiers are captured. The process must be practical for receiving, production and dispatch, including corrections and rework.
A traceability record can support investigation, but it does not by itself establish a complete recall, quality-management or regulated validation system. Define the required quality checks, release decisions and evidence. Additional Quality, PLM or specialist applications may be relevant and should be evaluated against the exact manufacturing requirements.
Distinguish planned manufacturing cost from the cost of what happened.
Odoo documents manufacturing-order cost concepts, including the role of components and operations. Finance and production should agree the input values, valuation method and treatment of actual consumption and time. A reliable report depends on those records being maintained, not only on enabling a costing feature.
Test a production order with extra material use, a changed component and recorded operation time. Review the finished-stock and accounting result with finance. Overhead allocation, waste treatment, by-products and specialized cost accounting need explicit decisions. A displayed order cost should not be described as every factory’s final statutory or management-accounting result.
Keep equipment availability connected to internal maintenance responsibilities.
Odoo Maintenance can record internal equipment and work-center maintenance requests. The manufacturing implementation should decide how a maintenance issue affects the production team’s planning and who confirms that the equipment is ready to return to use.
Preventive-maintenance triggers, machine telemetry and enforced scheduling constraints vary by requirement. Test the intended handoff rather than assuming a maintenance request automatically blocks or optimizes every production plan. Customer service work, if the manufacturer also installs or repairs products at customer sites, belongs to a separately designed commercial and field-service process.
Set the operating and finance structure before the production cutover.
Manufacturing data touches purchasing, stores, production, quality and finance. Each area needs an owner who can approve its part of the result.
- Define raw-material, work-in-progress and finished-goods locations according to the actual movement design.
- Agree units, product references, BOM ownership, required lots or serials and supplier mappings.
- Distinguish warehouses, branches and legal companies before setting access and opening balances.
- Confirm company currency, imported-material currencies, exchange-rate ownership and valuation with finance.
- Prepare role-specific training for planners, operators, storekeepers and finance in their working languages.
- Assess Iraq statutory reports, machine interfaces and specialist production or quality obligations separately.
Prove one product from demand to finished stock.
A meaningful pilot includes exceptions, because a perfect BOM with unlimited stock does not test the decisions that disrupt production.

- Record actual consumption, a permitted substitution, operation progress and finished quantity.

Do we need work centers for every production activity?
No. Work centers and work orders should represent meaningful operations and data requirements. The design should avoid unnecessary recording while preserving the stages and capacity information the business needs.
Can Odoo record actual component use and production cost?
Odoo has documented consumption and manufacturing-cost concepts. The valuation method, component costs, operation inputs and exception treatment must be configured and reconciled with finance.
Does lot tracking provide complete regulatory validation?
No. Traceability is one capability. Quality release, recall, controlled records and regulated validation require their own requirements and evidence; they are not assumed from enabling lots or serials.
Will Odoo connect directly to every machine?
No universal machine connection is promised. PLC, MES, telemetry and other interfaces require details of the equipment, data, access and intended workflow before integration can be assessed.
What should a manufacturing pilot include?
Use one real product with a clean BOM, a material shortage, actual consumption, a permitted exception and finished output. Reconcile traceability, stock, work in progress and cost before expanding the rollout.
